1/11/1975 Whalers play 1st game at Hartford Civic Center, a 4-3 overtime win vs San Diego. Don Blackburn scores the Whalers 1st goal, Garry Swain scores the game winning goal in overtime shorthanded, and goalie Al Smith records the win. 
3/12/1976 Garry Swain ties the Whalers (WHA) record for points in a game with 5 (1g, 4a) vs Cleveland. 
4/21/1976 Garry Swain records his 1st WHA playoff goal vs Indianapolis. 
12/27/1976 Whalers upset Soviet National Team 5-2 with goals by Swain, Earl, MacGregor, Lyle (2) and 31 saves by Cap Raeder. Garry Swain is named the games MVP. 
9/22/1977 Whalers name Bill Rasmussen their radio play-by-play man replacing Bob Neumeir. Former Whaler Garry Swain will provide color commentary.
